“This Is So Much Fun!”

Joshua said those words throughout the night last night. I cannot remember the last time he and I were able to go out together. I found it both surprising and rather a good feeling to have him want to go out with me alone. He does tend to get the shaft, but then again in the past, he would rather spend time with daddy. He was very excited to go play putt putt. We did take them once when he was about four years-old.

He does not remember.

As I buckled him into his seat, I handed him $20 and asked, “Do you want to pay tonight?” His eyes lit up, gleaming smile, excitedly saying, “Yea!” I added, “We are having a date night.” His response was, “What we can’t go on a date, you are my mom! That’s not right.” I laughed so hard while explaining to him what mom/son date nights are and reassuring him indeed other moms and sons do this too. As well as dads and daughters. It took a while for him to comprehend the whole thing.

When we got there, the place was empty.

I was not sure if it was open, but it was. We had the whole place to ourselves, except for the awesome ducks. Duck! Yes, I have pictures. One duck let us get close to him too! They were very pretty ducks. I did talk to him. Joshua had a blast. He went around looking for all of the hidden speakers. We listened to awesome 80′s music. He loves Michael Jackson and we did partake in some dancing action the whole time. :-)

At one point, I saw cash lying on the ground.

It was $6.00 with two movie stubs for “The Words“, which looks like an interesting movie. (Some of the comments about the movie were funny. I do not know if it would be any good or not, the story sounds interesting.) I placed the money in his pocket and said, “We’ll give it to the man inside when we go back in.” He liked that fact that he was responsible for holding the found cash. I giggled throughout the whole game enjoying every minute of Joshua’s enthusiasm and excitement. He was so happy and it made me all giddy watching him. We had some great conversations. I won and he was happy for me.

We play for real around here!

We went in and handed the money to the man, he said, “Keep it. Finders, keepers. No one has come to claim it so no worries.” The man asked if Joshua could play one of them games and he gave him a quarter. He won four pieces of candy. I did let him eat it. He ate two and kept two to share with Ariel and Daniel. I told him that he could buy something with his money and I would get Daniel and Ariel something for the same price, but he could pick it out. After several stores, we finally found some Lego Ninja guys that were perfect and perfectly priced.

We both had a great time.

I am going to make sure I do this at least once a month. All three of them loved having that alone time with me. I enjoyed it too. It is so easy to be swallowed up in the things of this world, and daily life. I want to cherish as much time with them as I can. They are such delightful kids. I know that I am their mother, but I think they really are. :-) Not that they do not have their moments… just like me!

I had to get all of this down so I could have it ingrained in my brain.

The only downfall of this is that now Ariel and Daniel are obsessively asking to go play putt putt. It is expensive folks! I will have to plan for it so all of us can go, or maybe they will be able to hold off until the next time we can go out one on one. We have had some rough patches with school. The main struggle has been with writing assignments. I wrote about it on my home school blog. I share some resources for dysgraphia. I plan to write about once or twice a week on there if time allows. For an incentive, I took them to the park today and tomorrow the pet store!

Keeping it positive! Sharing pictures. :-)
